WHAT IS OCV |
WHAT IS OUT OF COUNTRY VOTING: Out of Country Voting (OCV) allows people - especially refugees and diaspora - the opportunity to vote in elections for representatives to represent them in their country of origin. There are several steps involved in OCV, beginning with the registeration of diaspora and refugees, as voters. Then polling stations areset up, often in refugee camps and cities around the world, where they can vote in secret ballots, with the aid of international observers. This allows for their votes to be counted honestly and for the results to choose who will represent them. |

OCV is different from 'postal voting' in that postal votes are sent to the country of origin and then counted. OCV has been used for many diaspora and refugee groups, with international observers. The process has been used before in the Iraqi and Afghani elections culminating in elections that were internationally approved and recognized. For more information about OCV see Out of Country Voting in Post-Conflict Elections. Is there any information about election organising for the Afghani and Iraqi experience?
